Post-Crash Care: EMS Response to MVC Injuries

The NEMSIS TAC, in collaboration with NHTSA’s Office of EMS, has developed a resource to understand the scope and quantify the impact of motor vehicle crash-related (MVC) injuries that generate an EMS response.

The Post-Crash Care: EMS Response to MVC-Related Injuries report is provided to the public demonstrating a more complete picture of the characteristics of EMS response to MVC injuries.

Updated quarterly, this report includes current trends and graphs detailing overall MVC-specific response, severe injury, pedestrian, motorcycle, bicyclist, ejections, older adults, and comparisons between fatal, severe injury, and injury rates.

Please feel free to contact the TAC nemsis@hsc.utah.edu with questions.

2022 NEMSIS Public-Release Research Dataset Now Available

The National Emergency Medical Services Information System Technical Assistance Center (NEMSIS TAC) today announced the availability of the 2022 Public-Release Research Dataset, the largest publicly available dataset of emergency medical service activations in the United States.

Those interested in requesting a copy of the 2022 Public-Release Research Dataset can contact the NEMSIS TAC and fill out a request form here https://test.nemsis.org/using-ems-data/request-research-data. A password-protected USB drive containing the dataset and supporting materials will be sent via postal service.

Non-Fatal Opioid Overdose Tracker is now available

The Non-Fatal Opioid Overdose Tracker is now available for public use!

The first-of-its-kind data dashboard, which was developed for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) using national EMS data, will help policymakers and service providers target responses to the overdose epidemic and save more lives.

This information will help first responders identify trends and patterns of overdoses so they can direct prevention strategies more effectively.

“This dashboard puts data to work, strengthening our ability to save lives and fight back against the opioid crisis,” said Ann Carlson, Acting Administrator of NHTSA.

The Biden Administration’s National Drug Control Strategy calls for developing and strengthening the nation’s data systems to reach people at-risk of an overdose, and expand access to treatment for substance use disorder and high-impact harm reduction interventions like naloxone.
