In response to the 2020 COVID-19 epidemic, the NEMSIS TAC was directed to develop National Custom Elements and Values that would aid in the identification of potential COVID-19 infections and improve the characterization of the EMS response to potential infections.

Software Recertification Required Before 2021
The end of the year is fast approaching, so please be advised that you may need to recertify your software to remain compliant on the V3.4.0 NEMSIS Standard. Our new policy requires recertification every two years and takes effect on January 1st, 2021. Keep in mind that if you serve customers in the State of California, they require annual recertification, and your recertification date maybe sooner.
You can find your certification date on the NEMSIS website Compliant Vendors page: Compliant Vendors
To avoid any delays in the certification process, please consider seeking recertification at your earliest convenience, since there will be limited appointments available in December due to the holiday season. If you are unsure of your need to recertify, please contact Laurel Baeder for verification.
CMS to use NEMSIS data to Evaluate ET3 Model
The CMS Innovation Center will be utilizing NEMSIS data to evaluate the success of the Emergency Triage, Treat, and Transport (ET3) model. Some custom elements and values will be implemented by software companies for agencies participating in ET3. These custom elements and values can be found here.
